JOB Description

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of Pre-Kindergarten Assistant is done for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students and performing classroom and school tasks in support of the instructional process.

This job reports to the Principal.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform simple, non-technical tasks using existing skills.  Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: skill in applying accepted instructional methods/techniques under the direction of the assigned classroom teacher and supervising and monitoring student behavior and performance.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities, concepts of grammar and punctuation, safety practices and procedures and stages of child development.

ABILITY is required to perform scheduled activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes and operate equipment using defined methods.  Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited.

Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, establishing effective relationship while maintaining confidentiality, working as part of a team with frequent interruptions, following prescribed instructions to support the instructional program for students, and contributing positively to the overall effectiveness of the classroom and school environment.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervision; providing information and/or advising others;  managing activities for students; following instructions from the teacher; and operating within a defined budget. 

 

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.   The job is performed under minimal temperature variations.

Experience

Job related experience is desired.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent.
