JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for:

The job of the Maintenance Technician is done for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities for students,staff and public in safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program and to resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

Reports to:   Director of Facilities

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the school and/or property.
  • Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
  • Installs system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components (e.g. lighting, heating and ventilating system filters and/or belts, alarms, plumbing, security, electrical panels, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
  • Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition.
  • Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Repairs various items, systems and/or components requiring skills of maintenance trades (e.g. electrical, plumbing, electronics,wall board, safety rails, doors, locks, windows, pumps, toilets, welding,plumbing fixtures, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Make sure buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas are safe, neat and clean at all times.
  • Operates machinery when needed.
  • Fills in and/or assists as needed for all Areas/Trades/departments (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, etc.) of Facility Services.
  • Makes general building and equipment repairs as needed in a timely manner.
  • Make sure that proper safety work procedures are maintained.
  • Works well with others at district facilities to do repairs as needed.
  • Maintains and completes all safety training required by the district.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC systems such as cleaning coils,registers, replacing belts and filters, greasing all possible bearing.
  • Performs related duties as required including attending training for specialized.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ongoing training with building maintenance and others as required.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Flexibility required when working with data utilizing specific and defined processes.
  • Ability to utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment.
  • Ability to problem solve and follow guidelines.
  • Ability to remain flexible with changing work priorities.
  • Ability to perform some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Job related experience required.

Certificate & Licenses:

  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license

 

Working Conditions:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following

physical demands: significant lifting (30 lbs constantly, 50+ pounds regularly, must be able to

lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds), carrying, pushing, and pulling; significant

climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and significant

fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% walking, and 50% standing. The job is

performed with extreme temperatures and some hazardous conditions.

 

WORK SCHEDULE/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days per year. Salary based on Maintenance pay scale approved by Board of Trustees.
